Born of Osiris: "Follow the Signs"

If you've been following this blog for any length of time - and chances are you probably haven't - you'll know that I'm all about the technical death metal.  There are so many splintered off-shoots of the traditional death metal sound these days that I almost can't be bothered with the unadulterated, 90's-based form unless you throw some ridiculous shredding into the mix.
Born of Osiris are one of the shining acts in this milieu (along with Sumerian label-mates Veil of Maya), but that supremacy was threatened last month when guitarist Jason Richardson bolted the band.  Since Richardson played the leads time will tell whether Osiris remain on top of their game, but in the meantime here's the latest single from their Richardson-featured 2011 album The Discovery.

What's crazy is this video was directed by noted mumblecore scenester Andrew Bujalski, whose oeuvre thus far has aligned him for anything but a dip into the extremity of death metal.  If anything films like Funny Ha Ha and Hannah Takes the Stairs - for whatever their merits - are the polar opposite of metal, making even chillwave seem frisky and restless by comparison.  Interesting collaboration, to be sure.  I'd have liked to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.
