Debo Band: "And Lay"

Boston vs NYC has always been a classic rivalry. Boston's Debo Band utilizes a lot of the same pan-African influences that Brooklyn MVP's Vampire Weekend draw from, though they're obviously going for more of an authentic, unretouched variation. Who's better, who's best?

Debo Band is out July 10 on Sub Pop.

Saitam: "Union"

Big up to Ad Hoc for finding this. For those of you who haven't heard, Ad Hoc is basically a retooled MP3 arcana aggregator from the folks that ran the ill-fated (Pitchfork-associated) site Altered Zones, which went kaput somewhere around six months ago (this information could probably be researched and verified if WKMR had any kind of editorial guidelines... we don't).

Sinkane: "Jeeper Creeper"

Ahmad Gallab, Yeasayer drummer here.  Not quite Balearic, not quite Reggae, "Jeeper Creeper" slinks along over a multi-ethnic panoply of worldbeat influences.  The vocals bring it all back stateside.  There's been a lot of this belatedly sunny indie pop coming out so far this winter.  Hopefully spring won't invoke another Joy Division revival for sheer congruence if nothing else.
