Videoing: "Crimson Wave"

One of the saddest days recently in the Austin music scene was when Single Frame broke up. It often seems like local faves either break up or move to NY/Portland before they hit their peak, leaving a lot of people to wonder aloud if the self-professed "Live Music Capital of the World" isn't wildly overrated.

Don't Talk to the Cops: "I Don't Like Rachel"

Goddamn it's been a slow day for quality jams. Thought I was going to have to sit this Hump Day out until this feisty little buzzbanger came along. Don't Talk to the Cops is not only a great lifestyle choice, it's also the name of a band. You've gotta love a song that sounds like the percussion is butt bongos being played on a passed out stripper. Rachel presumably being the name of that stripper. Man, did I mention I've got nothing today?

Justice: "On'n'On"

A romp through a Justice video is an ouroboros-like spiral through a land of milk and titties.  Not content to let the jacket art (above) speak for their love of gratuitous nudity, you have been warned that this video is NSFW.  It's quite awesome, though, something worth bookmarking for when you get home from work.  I don't do enough to credit the directors of these videos, so in penance please peep this Alexandre Courtes cat whenever you get a chance.

Boots Electric: "Complexity"

Boots Electric is Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal.  Boots Electric is the solo project he created because  a) Josh Homme was busy, and/or b) Eagles of DM just wasn't sleazy enough for him.  It may also be that he got drunk one night and fell asleep watching Andrew WK and Electric Six videos.  Honkey Kong is a brand new album, but in long form Boots' schtick loses its appeal pretty fast, so peep this video for "Complexity" and then forget you've ever heard of the project.

CANT: "Believe"

Now this shit is kind of eerie.  I'm a bit of a skeptic, so when you show me clips of supposed unidentified flying objects I always assume there is some logical (usually atmospheric or militaristic) explanation and wonder why the footage always has to be grainy.  However, all these "found footage" movies that have come out over the last few years have gotten me in the spirit of suspension of disbelief - if only for entertainment purposes - so when you match this succession of "UFO" clips with the moody electronics of CANT's "Believe" I'm capable of getting suitably spooked.

Justice: "Canon"

Wild.  This shit sounds like Daft Punk broke out their Emerson, Lake and Palmer albums and started taking notes.  I'm sure Justice is tired of getting compared to Daft Punk just because they're both French, but that's actually not why at all: there is a movement afoot in Gaul of which DP is the de facto ringleader, and Justice is a part of it.  Doesn't mean they don't have their own identity, but the last time I checked a spade is still a spade... unless it's a hoe, but then we'd be talking about Nicki Minaj, wouldn't we?

Justice: "Audio, Video, Disco"

This has the breezy vocals of early Air combined with the oh so French electro rock that Justice have helped pioneer, itself a handshake compromise between traditional filter disco and the disco punk that is all the rage at present.  "Audio, Video, Disco" is the title track off the band's upcoming album of the same name, due 25 Oct 2011 in the US (see what I did there, motherfuckers?).  This is the second single off of that album, following "Civilization" released way back in April.  I like "Audio, Video, Disco" better as a song, but "Civilization" had the better video.
