Danny Brown: "Hand Stand"

Been awhile since we last saw Danny Brown and Darq E. Freaker on the same track, but good things come to those who wait. Speaking of long waits, Brown's belated to follow up to 2011's XXX - entitled Old, presumably because he's been sitting on these tracks for the last two years - comes out September 30.

Paul White: "Street Lights" [feat. Danny Brown]

Running out of hyperbole to spit re: Danny Brown so let's focus on Paul White, a UK producer that I'm hitherto unfamiliar with but who is supposed to be producing a good chunk of Brown's upcoming album. "Street Lights" the single is billed to Paul White, and probably represents a more accurate picture of what he intends for his own material as opposed to what he's bring to the table for the Danny Brown record, but I do like the way Danny sounds over such an obtuse beat. Stay tuned, should be a video for this shortly.

Darq E Freaker: "Pills & Cocaine" [feat. Danny Brown]

All I can do to keep WKMR from turning into a Danny Brown unofficial fan site. Can't help it. He's that good. And here he is hooked up London's Darq E Freaker, who is previously unknown to me, but one way of changing that is to hook up Detroit's finest with a beat that is equal parts haunted circus and rave hoovers. Somebody's on something.

Danny Brown: "Baseline"

Something about that hair flip makes me think of a skatepunk version of DJ Quik, but that's about the only connection I can make between Danny Brown and any other rapper. He positions himself thematically in the standard "talkin' shit" hip hop archetype, but his actual flow betrays a man so ecstatic with his own iconoclasm that he's barely holding his shit together. That kind of smug self-confidence would be fatal to a lesser talent, but Brown is the real deal Holyfield. Now all you hookers and hoes know how I feel.

Danny Brown: "Blunt After Blunt"

I don't know why I've never gotten into weed.  I don't get the creative/imaginative vibe going when I toke up, it just numbs me out, not dissimilar to popping pain pills but without the drowsiness.

Oh, who are we kidding?  WKMR has never inhaled.
